Outreach Ministries allow us opportunities to live our faith in the world: locally, nationally and internationally.

Outreach and Social Justice at Gilmore Park United Church

“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Matthew 26: 34-40

The O&SJ committee at GPUC has the responsibility of providing leadership to the congregation as we respond to this teaching.  Typically our responses fall in three different areas:

First -  by providing educational opportunities for our congregation and for the community.  As we learn and grow together we build a more inclusive world and we gain strength and ideas for building a more just society.

Second - by working together on projects and activities that make a difference in the lives of others.  Examples of this include the ongoing involvement in Project Linus, our yearly sock & underwear drive, participation in marches and rallies and of course our weekly community Meal.  These projects are particularly important in building relationships with each other and with other like minded citizens in our community.  By working with and for others we witness to the community that our faith makes a difference in our lives and we want to share that difference with others.

Third - by providing financial support to the church community and agencies at home and abroad who share our concern for the marginalized. See Sharing the Wealth.

With action in each of these ways, we have had opportunities to learn and grow, to build and foster relationships and to model to the community that we care about injustice.

May God Bless us All as we strive to build the Kingdom of Heaven on Earth!
