Dear Friends at Gilmore Park United Church

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all consolation, who consoles us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to console those who are in any affliction with the consolation with which we ourselves are consoled by God.    2 Corinthians 1

In these past months we’ve tried hard to adapt to keep our church going during Pandemic times.  There is a lot happening for Gilmore Park: Worship, Outreach, Music, and ways to keep in touch.  But it’s different.  We’ve all had to learn new technologies. And some of us don’t like them much.  But we are blest to be able to have that option.  Recently we’ve been asked “When can we go back to church?”  We want to tell you what GPUC is doing and why.

First, we are not going back to worship, or to meet, in the church for the next few months. Every board meeting, we look at the changing situation and discuss what is possible and safe.  On November 7th, the Province announced that new COVID infection rates are higher than ever and rising. BC has some of the highest rates in Canada. Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Henry has announced that we should not gather with ANYONE outside our own household for at least until November 23rd.   T

The United Church’s BC Regional Executive has just sent all churches a letter, to recommend that Churches not meet in person, until the Province changes their orders.    We are following all the directions given to us by the United Church and the Provincial Guidelines to keep everyone safe.  Although some other churches have returned to the building, people have not found the experience as satisfying as they hoped.  There can be no singing, people can’t hang around to talk to one another, everyone must wear masks, and many people cannot or will not be able to attend.  So we do what we can. This situation is new for all of us.

We all miss gathering in person. Our leaders have no map or precedents to tell us what comes next.  We ask that you pray for the church leaders at all levels, and pray for the situation to improve. We will be holding a service of Lament on November 26th at 7 pm by Zoom.

Meanwhile we will continue to offer opportunities to worship, pray and gather on-line.  We know that this is not ideal.

*If you want to be able to come to us by zoom or on-line but need help, contact us.
* Phone if you need pastoral care.
* Reach out to others in the congregation by phone.

There are many things happening through November and December and you’ll be hearing more about them soon. Be sure to check for updates on our WEBSITE, YOUTUBE and FACEBOOK pages.

May God bless and keep you, The board and ministers of Gilmore Park United Church
